Description: | The Health Care Assistant program provides the specialized training needed to work as an intermediate or extended caregiver working with elderly or disabled patients. The program teaches students the fundamental medical knowledge they will need to succeed in this industry, including medical terminology, physiology, chronic conditions. Students learn to monitor patient health, keep patient records, and create a support network for a special needs patient and his or her family. Students in this program complete two clinical care supervised practicum placements in order to put their skills into practice. Graduates receive several certifications in addition to the Health Care Assistant Diploma, including certifications in Assisting with Medications in Assisted Living, Violence Prevention for Provincial Health Workers, FOODSAFE Level 1, CPR “C” and AED, Mental Health First Aid Basic, WHMIS, and more. |
